Nichols College senior DL Bill Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) has been selected to play in the 2010 Division II/III All American Bowl. Hassett will compete against college football players from across the country in the all-star game, set for March 27th at Laidley Field Stadium in Charleston, W.Va.

The New England Football Conference named 12 Nichols College student-athletes to the All-Academic Team. Leading the way for the Bison was seniors Anthony Freni and John Sielawa who both recieved their third consecutive nominations.

Senior offensive tackle Brandt Genga (Middletown, R.I.) has been named to the ECAC Division III Northeast All-Star Team, it was announced Wednesday. Genga, a three-time All-NEFC Boyd Division and two-time All-Worcester Area honoree, served as co-captain of the Bison in 2009.

Six members of the Nichols College football team have been named to the Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Teams. The Bison had three from each side of the ball, offense and defense, named to the All-star squads. Senior DT Bill Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) and junior CB Brandon Wallace (Windsor, Conn.) earned First Team accolades, while senior WR Anthony Pillari (Lumberton, N.J.), senior OT Brandt Genga (Middletown, R.I.), first year OG Charles Baker (Milton, Mass.), and junior DE Patrick Gregory (Webster, N.Y.) earned Second Team honors.

Seven members of the Nichols College football team have been named the the 2009 New England Football Conference All-Boyd Division Teams, it was announced Friday. Senior DL Bill Hassett (Oxford, Mass.), senior OL Brandt Genga (Middletown, R.I.) and senior WR Anthony Pillari (Lumberton, N.J.) all earned First Team honors, while junior DB Brandon Wallace (Windsor, Conn.), first year OL Charles Baker (Milton, Mass.), senior WR Mike Seiger (Pittsfield, Mass.) and first year K Dave Wyrick (Avon, Conn.) were named to the Second Team.

Nichols college senior WR Mike Seiger (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore DB Mike Rubalcaba (Barre, Vt.) have earned spots on the New England Football Conference Weekly Honor Roll for games the weekend of November 7th. Seiger averaged 15.4 yards per catch in his third 100+ yard performance of the season, while Rubalcaba had the interception that set up Nichols’ touchdown drive in the second quarter.

Despite a season-high 423 yards of offense, the Nichols College football team closed out the season with a 31-10 loss at Western New England College Saturday afternoon. Sophomore quarterback Sean Smith-Vaughan was 31-for-54 passing for 344 yards with two interceptions. The 31 completions ties the single-game mark set in 1994 by Doug McKay against Assumption. Senior receiver Mike Seiger (Pittsfield, Mass.) had nine catches for 139 yards - his third 100+ yard game in the last four. First year fullback Anthony Terenzi (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with a game high 60 yards rushing and caught the Bison's TD in the second quarter.

Nichols College WR Anthony Pillari (Lumberton, N.J.) has earned a spot on the NEFC Offensive Weekly Honor Roll, for games during the weekend of October 31. Pillari had eight catches for 67 yards Saturday against Curry to break the 12-year-old Nichols career receptions record as well as the 15-year old single-season receptions record. He stands with 131 career catches and 51 on the season, breaking previous marks of 125 in a career held by Dave Sokolnicki ‘97 and 49 in a season set by Chris Maher (1993).

The Curry College football team defeated Nichols, 42-14, on senior day at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. Senior WR Anthony Pillari (Lumberton, N.J.) did his share for the Bison (4-5, 3-3 NEFC Boyd), as he broke the 12-year-old Nichols career receptions record as well as the 15-year old single-season receptions record. Pillari stands with 131 career catches and 51 on the season, breaking previous marks of 125 in a career held by Dave Sokolnicki ‘97 and 49 in a season set by Chris Maher (1993). Also joining in on the record breaking was sophomore QB Sean Smith-Vaughan (Cumberland, Maine), who broke single-season records for pass completions, attempts and passing yardage, as well as the single-game record for pass attempts.

The start time for the Nichols College football team’s home game against Curry on Saturday, October 31, has been pushed back to 2:15 p.m., it was announced today. The change is to accommodate the field hockey team’s The Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal game against Gordon at 11 a.m. on Vendetti Field. Nichols (4-4, 3-2 NEFC Boyd) looks to continue its winning ways at home where the Bison have not lost since the opening game of the season.
