Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.), a recent graduate of Nichols College, has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, it was announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Pio is one of 60 Division III golfers nationwide to earn the honor, and is the only representative from The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Nichols College has placed 20 student-athletes on the 2009-10 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced recently by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. A total of 378 student-athletes from all 14 conference institutions were represented on the team. Nichols was represented by five sophomores, 10 juniors and five seniors from 10 of its 12 varsity teams which compete in the TCCC. Eight honorees are dual majors.

Nichols College Director of Athletics Charlyn Robert has promoted Colleen Harris to head women’s ice hockey coach, it was announced Thursday. Previously an assistant with the Bison women’s ice hockey program for the 2009-10 season, Harris assumes her first collegiate head coaching position after playing in 132 career games at Boston College where she helped the Eagles to national prominence with two Women's Beanpot titles and an appearance in the 2007 NCAA Women's Frozen Four.

Nichols College Director of Athletics Charlyn Robert has promoted Damir Pesa to head women’s soccer coach, it was announced Wednesday. Pesa was previously an assistant coach with the women’s soccer program for the last three seasons and also serves as the head women’s lacrosse coach.

The Nichols College Athletics Department recently handed out its end-of-the year awards. Six special awards were given to graduating seniors, while six more were awarded to underclassmen. Coaches, department staff and honored guests gathered with the Class of 2010, a 52-member group of student-athletes, at the Senior Athlete Reception to wish them well and honor them for their dedication to the Bison athletics programs.

Commissioner of the ECAC Rudy Keeling announced Tuesday that 10 members of the Nichols College women’s ice hockey team have been named to the ECAC Women's East All-Academic team for the 2009-10 season. This marks the ninth year that the conference has named an All-Academic team. Nichols led the league with the most selections based on outstanding performance in the classroom. A total of 69 student-athletes representing 10 of the 12 ECAC East teams earned the honor.

Commissioner of the ECAC Rudy Keeling announced Tuesday that seven members of the Nichols College men’s ice hockey team have been named to the ECAC Northeast All-Academic team for the 2009-10 season. This marks the ninth year that the conference has named an All-Academic team. A total of 57 student-athletes representing eight ECAC Northeast teams earned this honor based on outstanding performance in the classroom.

Nichols College softball players Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) and Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) have been named to the 2010 All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference Honorable Mention Team, it was announced Wednesday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Robidoux, a junior outfielder, makes her second-straight appearance on the all-conference team, while Correia, a sophomore catcher, earns her first all-conference recognition.

The third-seeded Salve Regina University men’s tennis team edged second-seeded Nichols, 5-4, in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals Thursday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. A three-set marathon victory at No. 2 singles gave the Seahawks their eighth-straight victory on the season to improve to 12-10 overall. They will face top-seeded Roger Williams Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bristol, R.I. for the TCCC title. Nichols sees its record-setting season come to a close at 17-6.
