The Nichols College men’s tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College at the Pomfret School Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) battled back after a tough first set to force a third set tiebreak in his 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win over Nathan Rebello. Sophomore Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.) and first year Tony Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) were impressive in their doubles debut together, closing out their 8-0 win in 20 minutes.

The Roger Williams men’s lacrosse team edged host Nichols, 8-7, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Vendetti Field Thursday evening. The game marked the conference opener for both teams, and the season opener for the Hawks, who improve to 1-0 (1-0 TCCC). Nichols dips to 0-2 (0-1 TCCC).Junior midfielder Tim Ahern (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a pair of goals and two assists for the Bison, while first year attacker Matt Caulfield (Fairfield, Conn.) added two goals. Bradley O’Brien (Danbury, Conn.) scored a goal and assisted another.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) made 22 saves in the Nichols women's lacrosse team's home-opening 17-2 loss to Roger Williams. Nichols dips to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference games. The Bison are now idle until  March 22nd home game against Daniel Webster at 7 p.m.

 Sophomore attack Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) scored five goals and added an assist in the Nichols College women's lacrosse team's season opener at Lasell Tuesday afternoon. Nichols held a two-goal lead at halftime and after falling behind, tied the game late, but the Lasers rallied for a 16-12 victory.

Nichols College senior DL Bill Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) has been selected to play in the 2010 Division II/III All American Bowl. Hassett will compete against college football players from across the country in the all-star game, set for March 27th at Laidley Field Stadium in Charleston, W.Va.

The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. presented the Nichols College Bison Athletics Council Sophomore Class with a Community Engagement Award on March 2nd for exemplary service within the last year. The student-athletes sponsored a coat drive that provided over 100 coats to Abby’s House in Worcester and to the Free Winter Coat Closet at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge.

Nichols College first year forward Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) has been named the ECAC Northeast Hockey League Rookie of the Year, it was announced today by Commissioner of the ECAC Rudy Keeling. Kohn also earned a spot on the All-ECAC Northeast Second Team and All-Rookie Team. Sophomore defenseman Drew Palmer (Chelmsford, Mass.) joins Kohn with all-conference accolades with Honorable Mention accolades.

Fourth-seeded Becker scored 6:56 into overtime to defeat fifth-seeded Nichols, 5-4, in an ECAC Northeast Hockey League quarterfinal round game Sunday afternoon at the New England Sports Center. Danny Greiner (Columbus, Ohio) had a goal and two assists for the Bison (13-10-3).
