#3 Men’s Hockey Gets Past #6 Becker, 3-2; Bison Advance to ECAC Northeast Semifinals

Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Feb. 25) – First-year Louie Educate scored a pair of goals including the decisive marker to help send #3 Nichols to the ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey semifinals with a 3-2 win at home against #6 Becker in the quarterfinal round at Levy Rink on Saturday afternoon. The Bison (12-12-2) will travel to #2 Curry on Wednesday night for a 7:35 p.m. puck drop in Milton. Becker finishes the 2011-12 campaign with a 9-15-2 overall record.

Educate, the recently minted ECAC Northeast Rookie of the Year, extended his lead in the national rankings with his 26th overall goal and seventh game-winner of the season.

Junior Zach Kohn registered an assist on Educate's goal at 1:53 in the third to become the 14th member of the 100-point club. He joined Anthony Monte who also accomplished the feat in his junior year (2007-08).

Becker lit the lamp first as junior Branden Parkhouse found an opening above the right shoulder of the Nichols netminder after carrying the puck down the right side on an odd-man rush at 3:57. Sophomore Korby Anderson and rookie Justin Erhart each picked up assists on the marker.

Nichols brought the game back to a stalemate 13:30 into the second period on a power-play goal by first-year Joe Sposit. Sophomore Robbie Sorrenti won the faceoff sending the puck to junior Bryan Gill who fired a low slap shot that caromed off the goaltenders pads. Sposit then collected the rebound for the score.

Just 1:53 into the third period Kohn sent a pass to Educate for a one-timer as Sorrenti logged his second assist of the game for the Bison.

Becker knotted the game at 10:46 into the frame. Anderson found the back of the net on a slap shot to the glove side as he would get a pass from freshman Ronald Kokas.

Educate then delivered the game winner with 2:43 remaining in the contest as he sent a wrist shot to the glove side off a board pass from Gill.

Each team scored once on the power play as Becker went 1-for-6 and Nichols had five chances. The Bison held a slim 32-27 edge on shots for the day as Becker finished with a 38-32 advantage on faceoffs.

Senior Jacob Rinn earned his career-best 12th victory this season while turning away 25 shots. The last Bison to hit 12 wins in a year was Keith Fink in the 2008-09 ECAC Northeast Championship campaign. Senior Jake Rosenthal suffered the defeat halting a game-high 29 shots for the Hawks.
