Bison Land Six on NEFC All-Boyd Division Teams

DUDLEY, Mass. – Six Nichols College football players have been named to the 2008 New England Football Conference All-Boyd Division Teams, it was announced by league officials Friday. Senior linebacker Josh Harris (Northbridge, Mass.), junior wide receiver Anthony Pillari (Lumberton, N.J.) and junior return specialist Lawrence Scott (Oxford, Mass.) were named to the First Team. Senior safety David McLean (San Antonio, Texas), defensive tackle Bill Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) and offensive tackle Brandt Genga (Middletown, R.I.) earned Second Team honors, and Harris was also named to the Second Team at punter.

Harris, who also earned All-Worcester Area First Team honors at linebacker, led the team and ranked eighth among NEFC linebackers with 72 tackles (44 solo) and ranked third in the league with 16.5 tackles for a loss of 54 yards. Harris posted four sacks for a loss of 25 yards, an interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The senior was named the NEFC Defensive Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 26. At punter, Harris averaged 37.4 yards per punt, totaling 1609 yards on 43 kicks. The First Team selection marks the first of Harris's career; he was a Second Team honoree at tight end in 2006.

Pillari, who was the NEFC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006, averaged 59.6 receiving yards per game, racking up 596 yards on 38 catches with three touchdowns in 10 games this season to lead the Bison's receivers.

Scott led the NEFC averaging 28.7 yards per kick return, totaling 546 yards on 19 returns this season. He was also an All-Worcester Area Second Team honoree.

Hassett ranked fourth among league linemen and second on the team with 66 tackles (41 solo), and led the NEFC with three forced fumbles. He recorded 13.5 tackles for a loss of 49 yards and ranked eighth in the league with five sacks for a loss of 34 yards. The junior earned First Team honors last season and was named the Co-Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006. He also picked up NEFC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22.

Genga led the offensive line at tackle, helping the Bison to the fourth-fewest sacks allowed in the league (13) and an average of 149.7 yards of rushing offense per game. The award marks the second of his career; he earned Second Team accolades in 2006.

McLean recorded 38 tackles (25 solo) at safety, including a season-high eight (six solo) at Curry on 11/1. He posted 5.5 tackles for a loss of 18 yards on the season and helped Nichols to the seventh-best pass defense in the NEFC, allowing opponents an average 158.8 yards passing per game. The award marks the third of McLean's career; he was First Team selection in 2007 and a Second Team honoree in 2006.

Nichols wrapped up the season with a 2-8 record and an 0-7 mark in NEFC Boyd Division play.
