Pat Pio Won Medalist Honors at the 2007 TCCC Championship

Manchester, Mass. - The Nichols College men's golf team captured its first The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship since 2001 on Thursday at Essex Country Club. The Bison fired a 302, six strokes ahead of second place finisher Endicott, to earn the team title. Sophomore Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) took home medalist honors as he shot a one over-par 71 on the 6,003 yard course. Junior Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) tied for second overall as he shot a 74 on the day while junior Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, Conn.) placed sixth with his score of 77.

Nichols was the only school that placed all five of its golfers within the top 15 as senior Nick Reinert (Cromwell, Conn.) tied for tenth place with a score of 80. Sophomore Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.) rounded things out for the Bison with his score of 83, which tied him for 15th.

The Bison will play a match at Becker on Saturday before heading to the NEIGA Championships, which will begin on Sunday and run through Tuesday. Last season, Nichols earned its best finish in school history at the NEIGA's. Finishing second among Division II and III schools competing, the Bison placed ninth overall.
