Lou Izzi begins his fourth season behind the Nichols bench. For the second straight season, he guided the Bison into the ECAC Northeast playoffs in 2006-07. Nichols got off to its best start in the program’s history with an 8-1-1 record. In 2005-06, he led the Bison to their best season in history with an 18-7-2 mark, and became the first Nichols team in 27 years to post a winning record. In the process, the Bison set school records for most wins in a season and longest winning streak (10), and advanced to the ECAC Northeast semifinals after defeating Wentworth, 6-5, in overtime. The 05-06 Bison led the nation in scoring offense (5.62 goals/game) and scored the most shorthanded goals (15).
Izzi began his coaching career at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI where he started the program and guided the Wildcats to six straight ECAC playoff appearances. In 2000, he led Johnson & Wales to an 18-7-2 record and was named ECAC Northeast and New England Coach of the Year.
In nine seasons as a college head coach, Izzi now holds a career record of 121-100-9, including an ECAC mark of 94-58-1. He has coached six All-Conference players, including Anthony Monte '09Â and Jeff Bieber '09, and seven of his freshmen have been selected to the ECAC all-rookie team, including two who were named rookie of the year. In addition, Izzi has coached an NCAA scoring champion, an ECAC Goaltender of the Year and six players who were voted All-New England.
Izzi graduated from Providence College with a BA in English. He currently resides in Greenville, RI, and is the NCAA Compliance Officer and Academic Coordinator in the Athletics Department at Johnson & Wales.
