The Nichols College men’s tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College at the Pomfret School Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) battled back after a tough first set to force a third set tiebreak in his 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win over Nathan Rebello. The Roger Williams men’s lacrosse team edged host Nichols, 8-7, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Vendetti Field Thursday evening. The game marked the conference opener for both teams, and the season opener for the Hawks, who improve to 1-0 (1-0 TCCC). Nichols dips to 0-2 (0-1 TCCC).Junior midfielder Tim Ahern (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a pair of goals and two assists for the Bison, while first year attacker Matt Caulfield (Fairfield, Conn.) added two goals. The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. presented the Nichols College Bison Athletics Council Sophomore Class with a Community Engagement Award on March 2nd for exemplary service within the last year. Nichols College first year forward Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) has been named the ECAC Northeast Hockey League Rookie of the Year, it was announced today by Commissioner of the ECAC Rudy Keeling. Kohn also earned a spot on the All-ECAC Northeast Second Team and All-Rookie Team.
