Bison Set to Host Curry In CCC Women’s Tennis Semifinals

DUDLEY, Mass.  – The Nichols College women's tennis team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship and will host No. 4 seed Curry in the semifinal round on Wednesday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Francis W. Robinson Courts.

The outright regular season champion each of the last three seasons, the Bison completed the regular season 11-4 overall and 8-0 in the CCC. They closed out the campaign with a 5-4 win at Endicott before winning a pair of home matches within 24 hours to collect the program's 30th consecutive CCC regular season victory. The Bison have hosted four consecutive semifinal matches - including their first-ever appearance in 2009 - and sport a 2-1 record heading into this year's matchup.

Junior Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y.), the three-time CCC Player of the Year, posted a 4-0 mark in singles and a 5-0 record in doubles this season to remain undefeated against conference opponents in her career. In three seasons, the junior is an eye-popping 52-0 in conference action – including a 4-0 record in last year's tournament.

Sharing the top spot with Dyakiv this season is sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.), who posted three of her seven conference wins at the No. 1 singles flight en route to an undefeated record in the CCC for the second-consecutive year. Benoit also teamed with senior Alex Cifone (Bristol, Conn.), to sport a 6-1 ledger in CCC doubles matches.

Senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) returns to the postseason lineup after studying abroad last year. In her first two tournaments, Woodruff went 4-0 in doubles and 1-1 in singles. Individually, the senior posted an 8-0 record in CCC matches while finishing 3-3 in doubles competition this season.

Curry (9-6, 5-3 CCC) is paced by juniors Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.). Mulrooney was 9-4 (5-2 CCC) at No. 1 singles while Mongello went 7-5 (4-4 CCC) at the second flight. As a doubles team, the pair posted a 10-2 record overall and a 5-2 record in the CCC.

In the other semifinal matchup on Wednesday, second-seeded Endicott (11-2, 7-1 CCC) hosts third-seeded Roger Williams (9-3, 6-2 CCC). The two semifinal winners will square off on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the highest remaining seed.
