WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Sept. 23) – Seniors
Steve Carella and
David Drucker as well as first-year
Brandon Roode represented Nichols men’s tennis at the USTA/ITA Division III Men's New England Regional Tennis Championships hosted by Williams College on Friday.

Carella and Roode played well, including a love game hold on Carella’s serve, but Tommy Kimball and Robert Yee from Colby bested the Bison duo 8-5. The pair from Colby remained consistent to pick up the break in the seventh game of the match.

In singles competition, Roode fought off a total of 11 match points before Stephen Monk of Wesleyan closed out the contest. The rookie had a strong showing despite a slow start adjusting to the slick indoor surface as Monk won 6-3, 6-3.

Drucker had his work cut out for him as he drew #20 Joey Fritz from Amherst. The senior fell 6-3, 6-1, in spite of a tremendous effort, to a starter in last year’s Division III National Championship match and one of the highest rated recruits in the history of the division.
Men’s tennis is back in action on Wednesday, October 5 when the team heads to New London, Conn. to take on Coast Guard. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
