Johnson, Coderre and Hamilton Named NSCAA All-Region

DUDLEY, Mass. (Dec. 12) – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recently named senior David Johnson as a repeat Men's NCAA Division III All-New England Region first-team honoree. Junior Scott Coderre and senior Brendan Hamilton were also honored by the coaches association.

Johnson, a 2011 Commonwealth Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year and four-time All-CCC selection, claims NSCAA All-Region first-team honors for the second consecutive season. In 17 matches, the senior helped anchor the Bison backs that ranked third among league teams allowing only 19 goals.

For his career, Johnson saw action in 75 matches scoring 18 times, including four game-winners while recording six assists for 42 points. He scored a driving header off a corner against Endicott in the 2010 CCC Quarterfinals to start the Bison's playoff run.  Johnson also had a key strike in the first round of penalty kicks in the 2010 CCC Championship game that saw the Bison win their first CCC championship title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Coderre adds a first-team nod to his resume as he amassed a team-best 10 goals and 24 points to go along with a four assists in 19 contests for the Bison. The senior produced the game-winning goal in four matches with a pair against Wentworth, including the CCC Championship quarterfinal round, and another versus University of New England.

Over three seasons, the forward has netted 27 goals along with 10 assists for 64 points in 60 games and six game-winners. This past post-season, Coderre scored a goal and doled out an assist in the quarterfinal matchup at home against Wentworth and netted the equalizer early in the second half of the semifinal at Gordon. In last season's championship match, Coderre put the Bison ahead 1-0 just 3:06 into the contest.

Hamilton, a second-team selection, spent nearly 1,500 minutes in net for the Bison in 17 matches posting a 1.11 goals against average. A .830 save percentage placed Hamilton in a three-way tie for 42nd in Division III. The season also saw the senior record a Nichols-best 21 career shutouts while also earning his 47th win.

In 75 contests, the keeper spent just over 6,400 minutes between the pipes en route to topping the several categories in the Nichols record book. In 2010 Hamilton posted a 0.51 GAA and 11 shutouts to lead all Nichols goalkeepers in a season. He was among the NCAA leaders with a .900 save percentage (fifth) and had the 18th-best goals against average (GAA). Over four seasons, he also claims the best career GAA with 1.00 and tops the shutout and wins categories.

“I am both pleased and honored NSCAA members in New England have recognized the Nichols College men's soccer program by naming David Johnson, Brendan Hamilton, and Scott Coderre to the All-Region team,” stated head coach Chris Traina. “All three student-athletes have made the college, their families, and their coach extremely proud by their success on the soccer field.”

Nichols played in its third CCC title match in four years as the club posted a 5-3-1 record in league play and finished with a 12-5-2 overall mark.
