Football Cultural Event Thursday Kicks off Think Pink Week

All fall sports to support breast cancer awareness

DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 5) – The Nichols College football team, in conjunction with 15-40 Connection, is hosting a cancer awareness cultural event in Daniels Auditorium Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The three cancer survivors on the Bison squad along with Lou Longo, a cancer survivor and former football coach, will speak about the benefits of cancer screening and awareness.

Thursday's event kicks off the Student Athlete Advisory Committee's Play For A Cure fall cause week, Think Pink Week, which will feature all six fall sport teams supporting breast cancer awareness at home events from Saturday, October 8, through Wednesday, October 12. Fans are asked to join the Bison teams by wearing pink to the games and to purchase pink bracelets for $2 from SAAC and Bison Council members during the week.

Nichols College Trustee Jim Coghlin '67 founded 15-40 Connection in 2005, and has built a relationship with the Nichols College football team, serving as the honorary captain at the Worcester State game on September 15, and speaking to the team at a recent practice. Improvements in cancer survival rates for teens and young adults have remained near 0% since 1975. The mission of 15-40 Connection is to provide this age group with the life-saving advantage of early detection.

Future Play For A Cure seasonal causes include Autism Awareness in the winter and Leukemia Awareness in the spring season. During last fall's Think Pink efforts, the Bison Council junior group raised over $500, which was donated in the name of friends, family, and members of the Nichols College community to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
