LEICESTER, Mass.(Sept. 4) – Nichols College scored three first half goals on its way to an 8-0 win over Becker College in field hockey action Saturday at Alumni Field. Nichols wins its season opener, while Becker drops to 0-2.
The Bison tipped the scoreboard just 4:05 into the game as junior Chelsea Corriea (Seekonk, Mass.) finished off a scrum in front of the net for her first goal of the season. Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) made it 2-0 just a minute and a half later with a 15 yard score from the top of the circle.
Barbara Roy (Springfield, Mass.) scored the next two goals for Nichols. Corriea and Widdison both added second-half goals.
Becker goaltender Nakita Gosselin made eight saves in the loss. Nichols' goalkeepers Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) and Emily Cornacchio (Salem, Mass.) combined for the shutout. Forand also scored a goal late in the game after taking to the field.
Nichols hosts Smith Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Vendetti Field for its home opener under the lights.
