SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 7) - Senior midfielder Lindsey Fenton netted six goals and had an assist in becoming the school's all-time scoring leader as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team defeated visiting Nichols 22-5 Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Golden Bears, who evened their record at 5-5, are now 3-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) while the Bison fall to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

 

Sophomore attacker Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied three goals for Nichols while junior defender Kaitlyn DiBuono (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore defender Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) also hit the back of the net.

 

Freshman midfielder Megan Doyle enjoyed a six-point outing with four goals and a pair of assists. Junior defender Nicole Poli added three goals and an assist. Sophomore attacker Katie Toomy and freshman attacker Julianne Green each contributed two goals and two assists.

 

Western New England College took an early 4-0 lead just 4:09 into the game and held a 13-4 advantage at intermission.

 

Sophomore goalie Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) settled down after a shaky start and compiled 22 saves, including many nice stops throughout the contest.

 

Nichols is back in action on Saturday, hosting Endicott at Vendetti Field for an 11 a.m. TCCC game.

The Nichols College women's lacrosse team has qualified for the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) championship tournament, which begins with quarterfinal round games on Saturday, April 30. The Bison, who were in a three-way tie for the eighth seed, earned the tournament's final berth via coin toss Monday afternoon. Nichols returns to the playoffs for the second time in program history and the first time since 2007, and will travel to top-seeded Western New England for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
