STOW, Mass. (April 7) – Junior Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) carded the only eagle of the tournament and finished tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard to lead the Nichols College men’s golf team to a 10th place finish at the 2010 Lou Flumere Invitational, hosted by Bentley University at the Stow Country Club Wednesday afternoon.

Paulhus finished the first hole, a par five, 540-yarder in just three strokes and fired a 36 on the front nine, matching the tournament low carded by just two others, en route to a 76 (+5) on the day. As a team, Nichols, which had three first year players in the lineup, finished with a composite 330 (+46).

First year Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) finished tied for 18th with an eight-over 79 (38-41), while Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) stood in 58th with an 86 (42-44). Matt Quigley (Sturbridge, Mass.) stood three strokes behind in 65th after a solid front nine (40-49, 89), and Sam Scott (Aquinnah, Mass.) wrapped up the squad with a 92 (41-51).

Salem State took home top team honors with a 305, while Holy Cross’s Colin Andrade earned medalist honors with a birdie on the first hole of a three-way playoff.

Nichols continues its spring schedule at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational this weekend, teeing off at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Allendale Country Club.

The Nichols College golf team moved up eight places after the opening round to finish 24th at the 77th Annual NEIGA Championship Tuesday. The Bison cut 25 strokes off their opening round score, finishing 12th among Division III teams. Kevin Wheeler won the bunker contest and Brian Sears carded one of the best second round scores of the 168-player field at two-over (74).

Nichols College sophomore Brian Sears and Endicott College sophomore Nick Erlichman each carded a 74 (+2) to earn co-medalist honors of the 9th Annual Bison Invitational held Sunday at the par-72, 6,483-yard Green Hill Golf Course. Led by Sears, the Nichols White team finished fourth, while the Nichols Black team finished fifth in the seven-team event.

First year Kevin Wheeler took top individual honors and led the Nichols College men's golf team to a first place finish at the Mitchell Invitational held at Shennecossett Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. Wheeler finished with a 76 (+5) for his first top-place finish, two strokes ahead of his nearest competitor after posting the best score of the front nine. The Bison combined for a 331, finishing three strokes ahead of second-place Newbury.

The Nichols College golf team finished tied for seventh place at the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Men's Golf Championship at par-72, 6,833-yard Hampden Country Club in Hampden, Mass. The event was shortened to one 18-hole round on Sunday after Saturday's opening round was washed out. The Bison were led by first year Kevin Wheeler, who finished tied for fifth place at two-over.

Round One of the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Men's Golf Championship at Hampden Country Club in Hampden, Mass., scheduled for a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The championship has been reduced from 36-holes to 18-holes. The 18-hole championship round will be played on Sunday, October 2 at Hampden Country Club.

The Bison's Zach Kohn carded a 76, but Chris Gosselin of Anna Maria edged out the junior on the 16th hole by one stroke to take top individual honors in a quad 'B' golf match hosted by Nichols at the Dudley Hill Golf Couse Tuesday afternoon. The AMCATS took first place, finishing two strokes ahead of Nichols, which finished the day with a team score of 312.
