SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 28) – Nichols College junior outfielder Zac Johnson (Wakefield, R.I.) has been named to the 2010 All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference Team, it was announced Wednesday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Johnson earned a spot on the TCCC’s Second Team for the first all-conference honors of his career.
Johnson started all 33 games in the outfield this season and led the team with a .379 average at the plate. He paced the Bison with 44 hits, 19 runs scored and 54 total bases. Johnson hit a team high-tying and career-best eight doubles and drove in 17 runs while striking out just eight times in 116 at bats. He went the first 22 games of the season without getting caught stealing, and finished the year with a team-best 12 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
Johnson put together two seven-game hit streaks, hit over .400 for more than 36% of the season, and reached base safely in all but four games on the year. He was picked to be in the Nichols Bison Spotlight on April 6th after batting .667 on the week (10-15) in TCCC play with three doubles, seven RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases.
A .343 career hitter, Johnson has not missed a start in the last two seasons and has started 90 of 96 career games. He ranks third on the Nichols career stolen bases chart with 47 in 55 attempts.
The Bison finished just outside of a TCCC playoff spot with a 7-15 conference record and concluded the season at 11-24 overall.
