Women's Lacross Topped at Colby-Sawyer, 17-9

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 26, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women’s lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 19-7 victory over the visiting Bison of Nichols College on Monday afternoon. The win improves the Chargers’ overall record to 6-10 and conference record to 5-6. The loss puts Nichols at 4-10 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

 

Colby-Sawyer scored three times in the first four minutes and did not look back. Sophomore Lyndsay French scored two of the goals in that stretch. The Chargers had goal runs of four, three and three with a Nichols goal mixed in between them for the remainder of the first half. Colby-Sawyer led 13-5 at the break.

 

Sophomore Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) scored three of her four goals in the first half to lead the Bison.

 

The teams traded the first four goals of the second half before Colby-Sawyer finished the game on a four goal run.

 

Sophomore Brittney Murphy led Colby-Sawyer with seven points including four goals and three assists. Sophomore Molly Prudden, freshman Laurel Bauer and junior Samantha Draper had three tallies apiece. 

 

Forand led the Bison with four goals, while sophomores Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.), Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) and Brittany Tremont (Guilford, Conn.) each scored a goal.

 

The Chargers have locked up the seventh seed in the TCCC tournament and will play either the University of New England or Roger Williams in a quarterfinal match on Saturday. Nichols will finish its regular season with a contest against Salve Regina on Wednesday at 7:00pm.

The Nichols College women's lacrosse team has qualified for the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) championship tournament, which begins with quarterfinal round games on Saturday, April 30. The Bison, who were in a three-way tie for the eighth seed, earned the tournament's final berth via coin toss Monday afternoon. Nichols returns to the playoffs for the second time in program history and the first time since 2007, and will travel to top-seeded Western New England for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
