Women's Lax Snaps Skid With 12-8 Win at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. (April 15) – The Nichols College women’s lacrosse team defeated Rivier College Thursday night, 12-8, in a non-conference game at Raider Field to snap a six-game losing streak. Nichols received goals from four different players and improves to 3-8 overall.

The Bison led, 6-2, at halftime before both teams netted six in the second frame. Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) led Nichols with eight goals, while Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) potted two. Lindsay Gustafson (Pepperell, Mass.) had a goal and an assist.

Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) made 17 saves to pick up the win, while Rivier netminder Lauren Hall finished with eight saves in the loss.

Nichols led the groundball battle, 34-32, and was successful in seven of 10 clear attempts.

The Bison return to The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game at Colby-Sawyer.

The Nichols College women's lacrosse team has qualified for the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) championship tournament, which begins with quarterfinal round games on Saturday, April 30. The Bison, who were in a three-way tie for the eighth seed, earned the tournament's final berth via coin toss Monday afternoon. Nichols returns to the playoffs for the second time in program history and the first time since 2007, and will travel to top-seeded Western New England for a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
