DUDLEY, Mass. (April 13) – The Nichols College men’s lacrosse team fell to Gordon, 12-7, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Vendetti Field Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots used a balanced attack with four players netting four points apiece to win their seventh straight game and improve to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the TCCC. Nichols ended its man-up woes with a 2-for-4 effort, but dips to 2-9 overall and remains winless in the TCCC at 0-7.

Junior attacker Austin Healy (Westford, Mass.) led the Bison in scoring with three goals, while classmate Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.) notched two goals and a pair of assists.

Gordon junior attacker Zac Blue, senior midfielder Danny Mack and sophomore attacker Tom Wholley each scored three goals and added an assist, while senior midfielder James Blue marked the other four-point performance with a goal and three helpers.

The game was tied up at one by the 7:23 mark, but three-straight tallies by the Scots gave the visitors a 4-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Goals 26 seconds apart by Wholley opened up the second frame, before Pacific broke up the scoring with his second score of the game. Gordon scored twice more to carry an 8-4 advantage into halftime.

Nichols struck in the third quarter with a pair of man-up tallies, first from first-year attacker Steve Delahanty (Auburn, N.H.) and then from Healy to bring the score to 8-4 at the end of the frame.

Zac Blue followed a Wholley goal with a pair of scores just over a minute apart to start the fourth and extend the Scots lead to 11-4, but Nichols responded with consecutive goals from Sean Tarrant (Norwalk, Conn.) and Healy to cut the visitors’ lead to five at 7:57. Dan Castelline and Healy traded goals to end the game at 12-7, Scots.

Nichols goalkeeper Scott Gray (Annapolis, Md.) made 23 saves in the game, while Gordon starter Houston Zemanski made seven in the first 52 minutes to earn the win. Tyler Humpton finished out the game with three goals allowed on three shots.

Gordon held a 47-34 advantage in groundballs and cleared the ball successfully on 20 of 21 attempts. Nichols was 20-of-31 in clears and turned the ball over 29 times to Gordon’s 17.

Nichols is back in action on Saturday in a noon TCCC home game against Wentworth. Gordon hosts Anna Maria Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. conference game.
