The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. presented the Nichols College Bison Athletics Council Sophomore Class with a Community Engagement Award on March 2nd for exemplary service within the last year. The student-athletes sponsored a coat drive that provided over 100 coats to Abby’s House in Worcester and to the Free Winter Coat Closet at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge.

With the coordinating help of the Director of Sports Medicine Bill Coffey, student-athletes collected coats not just from the campus community, but also from their communities back home during the semester break. Julie Komenos, associate director of Abby’s House in Worcester, states that it was a particularly “timely donation,” as this year, there is a greater need for help. The women of Abby’s House enjoyed “shopping” through the donations and greatly appreciate the warmth a coat provides in this blustery winter season.

Abby’s House is a multi-service, non-profit organization in Worcester, Mass., that serves homeless and battered women and children. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge, Mass., operates a Free Winter Coat Closet; open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Participating Nichols student-athletes were: Lauren Correia, Alexa Boucher, Dan Saucier, Mike Salis, Lena Fracassini, Reggie Belizare, Richie Burke, Dylan Courtney, Nick Bettano, Courtney Carey, Haylie Carter, Andrew Ella, Molly Ferraro, Jay Gove, Zach Hendrickson, Eric Kelly, Chris Kerrigan, Jeremy McAuley, Jeremy McAuley, Josh Paulhus, Arianna Perrotti, Savannah Thibault, Brittany Tremont and Chelsea Shaughnessy.

Congratulations!
