Set, Spike, Save! Volleyball Tournament Sunday

Set, Spike, Save!

The Sophomore Bison Council group invites you to Set, Spike and Save! this Sunday in the group’s charity volleyball tournament to benefit the relief efforts in Haiti. Signups for teams of six or more are all this week in the dining hall. Your donation of $5 per participant will help those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti. Additional donations will be accepted.

 

The tournament runs from 1-5 p.m. in Chalmers Field House and drinks will be provided. Prizes will be awarded not only to the winning team, but also to the team that collects the most donations.

 

So grab your headband, tube socks, and elbow pads and get ready to Set, Spike and Save! this Sunday, March 7th with the Sophomore Bison Council group in Chalmers Field House.

Nichols College has placed 20 student-athletes on the 2009-10 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced recently by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. A total of 378 student-athletes from all 14 conference institutions were represented on the team. Nichols was represented by five sophomores, 10 juniors and five seniors from 10 of its 12 varsity teams which compete in the TCCC. Eight honorees are dual majors.

The Nichols College Athletics Department recently handed out its end-of-the year awards. Six special awards were given to graduating seniors, while six more were awarded to underclassmen. Coaches, department staff and honored guests gathered with the Class of 2010, a 52-member group of student-athletes, at the Senior Athlete Reception to wish them well and honor them for their dedication to the Bison athletics programs.

Nichols College recognized 130 of its student-athletes for their excellence in academics and athletics on Friday as part of National Student-Athlete Day. The students honored at the special ceremony, held in Nichols’ Auditorium, have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of over 3.0 and are members of at least one of the Bison’s 15 varsity programs. Keynote speaker Bill Pieczynski, Associate Vice President for Advancement, addressed the group prior to the awards ceremony.

The Colleges of Worcester Consortium, Inc. presented the Nichols College Bison Athletics Council Sophomore Class with a Community Engagement Award on March 2nd for exemplary service within the last year. The student-athletes sponsored a coat drive that provided over 100 coats to Abby’s House in Worcester and to the Free Winter Coat Closet at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge.

With the addition of the newly-formed Bison Council, where student-athletes from every class join forces to make the community, both on-campus and abroad, a better place, Nichols College student-athletes have extended their successes off the courts and into the hands of those around them.
