Senior Tim Smith (Plainfield, Conn.) has been named the TCCC Pitcher of the Week for play ending Sunday, March 28th. Smith recorded a win and a save and allowed just one hit in eight scoreless innings of work in the Bison's first doubleheader sweep over Roger Williams since 2005. The honor marks the first of his career.
Facing the minimum 21 batters, he went the distance in the opening game allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four batters. Smith did not allow a runner into scoring position all game and threw five perfect innings to finish the game. In the nightcap, Smith threw a total of seven pitches in the seventh inning to retire the side in order and pick up the save. All in all Smith through a total of 77 pitches in eight innings, averaging less than 10 pitches an inning.
Smith was named to the 2009 All-TCCC Baseball team with a perfect 6-0 record and 2.00 E.R.A. His six wins and 2.00 ERA led the Bison last season. Batters hit a meager .192 off of Tim Smith last season and his supreme control kept the bases vacant while he was on the mound. This season he picked up right where he left off. He has walked just two batters through 18 1/3 innings, while posting a 3.93 ERA thus far.
