KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 17) – The Nichols College softball team fell to Illinois-Wesleyan University and Montclair State in a pair of morning contests at the Spring Rebel Games Wednesday on the Bison’s spring trip. Illinois-Wesleyan topped Nichols, 4-0, in the first game, while a comeback bid fell short against Montclair State, 6-4, in the second game. Nichols stands at 2-6 with two games remaining on its Southern swing.

The Titans took advantage of small ball to score single runs in the third and fifth innings, and to send two across in the fourth. Overall, Illinois-Wesleyan collected nine hits on the day.

Nichols had runners on board in the first and fifth, highlighted by a double from Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) in the fifth inning.

In the second game, Montclair State took a 6-0 lead before Nichols scored four runs in the fifth inning. The Red Hawks had a big third inning, scoring four runs on four hits, including a two-run double from Kelly Nance. They took advantage of errors in the fourth to plate a single run, and added another score in the fifth when Heather Bergman drove in a run.

Nichols scored the first three batters of the bottom of the fifth, getting two across on a 2RBI single from Chelsea Correia. RBI singles from Loren Rozanski (Plainville, Conn.) and Shannon Weeks (Greenfield, Mass.) capped the scoring.
