COCOA, Fla. (March 14) – The Nichols College baseball team split a doubleheader with Richard Stockton Sunday at the Cocoa Expo, falling in the first game, 3-0, before winning the second, 7-2. Junior Austin Martin (Wakefield, R.I.) earned the complete-game win in the second game with six strikeouts and six hits.

Mike Wasco hit solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings and another run crossed on a wild pitch to give the Ospreys the first game win. Nichols was held to five hits in the game, while senior Joe Atchue (Grafton, Mass.) took the loss on nine hits and a pair of strikeouts.

It was another story in the nightcap, however, as the Bison cranked out 13 hits, led by a 3-for-4 performance from Josh Clark (Brunswick, Maine) and a 2-for-3, 2 RBI effort from Matt Whitman (North Plainfield, N.J); both scored two runs.

Nichols scored the leadoff batter in each of the first four innings, and added another run in the fifth before scoring a pair in the sixth on an RBI triple from George Sergi (Blackstone, Mass.) and an RBI single from Clark.

Nichols continues its southern swing on Monday with a 10 a.m. game against Hilbert.
