POMFRET, Conn. (March 11) – The Nichols College men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College at the Pomfret School Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) battled back after a tough first set to force a third set tiebreak in his 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win over Nathan Rebello. Sophomore Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.) and first year Tony Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) were impressive in their doubles debut together, closing out their 8-0 win in 20 minutes. Nichols (2-2) now travels to Orlando, Fla., for a five-match spring training trip. The Bison return to Dudley, Mass. On March 24 to open The Commonwealth Coast Conference action against Western New England College at 3:30 p.m.
