Manopla Scores ECAC East Player of the Week Award

CAPE COD, Mass. (Feb. 16) – Nichols College sophomore Mandy Manopla (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has been named the ECAC Women’s East Hockey League Player of the Week for play ending Sunday, February 14. Manopla netted the first hat trick in Bison women’s hockey history on Saturday, helping Nichols secure its first-ever playoff berth.

Manopla scored three goals on just five shots in Nichols’ 8-1 win over Plymouth State Saturday, netting a pair on the power play. She leads the team with 18 points and ranks seventh in the league with 13 goals. With five of her goals coming on the power play, she ranks eighth in the conference in power play scoring.

With three home games remaining on the season, Nichols can finish as high as seventh in the standings. The Bison host Norwich Friday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Castleton St. for the final two games of the season on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) for Senior Day and Monday (12:00 p.m.). The Spartans currently stand one point ahead of the Bison in the conference standings.

Grace Murphy, Megan Gerein and Tawny Buelow each scored for the Bison as Courtney Carey, Hannah Tardif and Mandy Manopla pitched in with assists on Friday night. Francesca Palazzo and Tori Gianformaggio stopped a total of 34 shots. Nichols entertains Castleton tomorrow at 4:40 p.m. as part of "Autism Awareness Day."

Megan Gerein knocked home the game-winning goal with 2.0 left in regulation to propel the Bison to the 3-2 win. Talia Hohmann and Grace Murphy also scored for the home team. Tori Gianformaggio posted her team-best fourth win of the season turning away 28 shots. Nichols is back in action tomorrow night at 7:40 p.m. when Saint Anselm is in town for a league contest.

Hot off a record-setting win, the Nichols College women's ice hockey team traveled to defending national champion and top-ranked Norwich University for a Saturday afternoon game. A trio of Bison netminders saw action against the nation's top offense. Tori Gianformaggio made 14 saves in the third period.

First-year Kerri Nadeau netted the game-winning goal 34 seconds into overtime to help push Nichols past Saint Michael's, 3-2, on Friday night. The win sets a new benchmark for victories in a season and snaps a five-game skid. Grace Murphy put the squad ahead early in the second as Talia Hohmann knotted the game 2-2 to send the game into an extra session. Tori Gianformaggio picked up the win collecting 21 saves. Nichols plays the defending national champion Norwich tomorrow in a 1:00 p.m. matinee.

Grace Murphy scored her second goal in as many games and third in the past four contests for the Bison as Francesca Palazzo turned away 50 shots on Saturday night. Murphy was aided by an assist from Talia Hohmann. The squad heads to Vermont next weekend to face Saint Michael's on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and Norwich on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
