NEW LONDON, N.H. (Jan. 23) – Freshman Jason Chevrefils recorded his third double-double of the season with game-highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds to lift Colby-Sawyer past Nichols, 82-73. The Chargers improve to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Bison drop to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in TCCC action.

The teams traded the first two buckets of the game when the Chargers took over and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the contest. The first half featured great play by each team’s forwards. Chevrefils scored 14 first half points on 6-7 shooting for the Chargers, while the conference’s third leading scorer Pete Atkins (Gainesville, Fla.) kept the Bison close with nine points.

Colby-Sawyer built their largest lead of 15 with under a minute to play in the first half, but senior Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.) hit a three and knocked down two free throws in the final 30 seconds of the half to cut the Chargers lead to 10 at the break.

The Chargers held onto the lead in the second half, but Nichols battled back cutting the deficit to four on multiple occasions. The Bison hit six of 12 three-point attempts in the second frame and scored 16 second chance points to remain within striking distance. Nevertheless, Colby-Sawyer led by 14 second half points from senior Jon Chaloux warded off Nichols down the stretch for the win. The Chargers shot 50% for the game, while Nichols shot 35.2%.

Chaloux finished with 20 points on 7-12 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds for the Chargers. Senior Dave Rosso added 16 points on 6-9 shooting including 4-6 from beyond the arc in the win. Will Bardaglio added 10 points.

Nichols was led by Paquin who finished with 19 points, 14 of them coming in the second half. Senior Bryan Riley (West Boylston, Mass.) had 13 points in the second half and 18 for the contest.  Atkins finished with 11 before fouling out with 10 minutes to play.

The Chargers host the Lions of Eastern Nazarene on Thursday, January 28 at 7:30 pm. Nichols also returns to action on the 28th with a home game against Western New England at 6:00 pm.
