WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. (Jan. 22) – Sophomore Mandy Manopla (West Palm Beach, Fla..) recorded two goals and one assist and junior Christine Rigosi (Ridgewood, N.Y.) stopped all 29 shots she faced Friday night as Nichols College defeated Plymouth State University, 9-0, in an ECAC East women's hockey action at Waterville Valley Arena.

Nichols took control of the game in the first period with three unanswered goals. The Bison put the game away in the middle of the second period with three goals in a 90-second span, turning a 4-0 game into a runaway. The Panthers registered a season-high 29 shots on goal but Rigosi held the fort and earned her first win of the season and her first career shutout.

Junior Ashley O’Donnell (North Scituate, R.I.) and sophomore Cheryl Pitts (Wakefield, Mass.) each scored their first goal of the season to give Nichols a 2-0 lead, and Manopla potted her first of two to give the Bison a 3-0 advantage after one. Sophomore Hannah Tardif (Laconia, N.H.) made it 4-0 early in the second period, and Candace Ellis (Gloucester, Mass.), junior SueEllen Nault (Goffstown, N.H.) and Manopla rattled off three in a row in the middle of the second period to finish off the Panthers.

PSU junior goalie Lauren Bonanni stopped nine of the 10 shots she faced after coming in late in the second period in place of sophomore Nicole Provencher.

Both teams play again on Saturday, Nichols visiting the University of Southern Maine for a 1:00 p.m. face-off and PSU hosting UMass Boston at 2:00 p.m. at Waterville Valley.
