Tim Smith Named All-TCCC
Tim Smith All-TCCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Nichols College junior Tim Smith (Plainfield, Conn.) has been named to the 2009 All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference Baseball Team, as announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Smith posted a perfect 6-0 record on the season in nine appearances and boasted the league’s lowest ERA at 2.00.

Smith earned two shutouts with five complete games in six starts this season, and also picked up a save. In conference-only play, he won all four starts with complete-game efforts with shutouts at Salve Regina and against Anna Maria. His seven walks allowed marked the third-fewest in the Bison record books for a single season, and his six wins in a season ranks third in the Nichols record books.

In three appearances in Florida, Smith went 1-0 with a save against Baruch on March 21. His win came in a six-hitter against Hilbert in which he struck out three.

Smith hit his stride back in New England with complete game-wins over Eastern Nazarene and New England College, striking out six in the Bison’s home opener over the Pilgrims.

After a two-inning relief appearance against Worcester State in which he held the Lancers scoreless on one hit while striking out two, Smith started his last three games, recording shutouts in two of them.

At Salve Regina on April 19, Smith struck out four and allowed just three hits in the 5-0 victory, and five days later against Anna Maria, he fanned three and walked none in the four-hit, 4-0 win.

In his final appearance of the season, Smith threw a complete nine-inning playoff win against sixth-seeded Wentworth in Brookline, Mass. He struck out two and walked one while allowing six hits to back Nichols to the elimination game win, retiring the side in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.

The Bison finished the year with a 17-20 record and an 11-11 mark in TCCC action.
