CAPE COD, Mass. – Nichols College senior point guard MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) has been named the 2008-09 ECAC Division III New England Women's Basketball All-Star Second Team, as announced Friday, April 3. The honor adds to the list of accolades for Skarzenski, who was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player, Defensive Player and Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year after leading the Bison to a program-record 25-5 mark.
Nichols' all-time leader in assists, steals, games played and started, Skarzenski wrapped up her career standing fourth on the all-time scoring charts with 1,333 career points. The 2007 TCCC Defensive Player of the Year and TCCC Rookie of the Year on 2005, Skarzenski started, played and scored in all 115 games since stepping foot on the Nichols College campus.
Skarzenski contributed in virtually every way for a talented Nichols team that posted a 12-1 mark in conference play this season, earning the number one seed in the TCCC Tournament. The leader of the Bison, Skarzenski averaged a team-high 12.3 points per game stood second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
Skarzenski averaged 3.3 steals per game, ranking her second in the TCCC, and posted 5.07 assists, good for third in the league. Her 2.24 assist-to-turnover ratio led the conference, and ranked 11th in NCAA Division III.
Nichols made its first-ever appearance in the ECAC DIII New England Championship game, earning the top seed in the tournament and hosting WPI in the title game.
