SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Dec. 7) – Nichols College junior forward Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) has been named the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week for play ending Sunday, December 6. Nelson averaged 25 points per game on the week to lead Nichols to a pair of overtime wins.
To go with her offensive output, Nelson added an average of 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists on the week, firing 75% from the field (21-of-28) while committing just six turnovers in 80 minutes of play. In an 81-79 victory over Fitchburg State, she posted her second career double-double with a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists. Nelson followed with 24 points and eight boards in a 59-56 victory over Westfield State.
Nelson ranks second in the TCCC in points per game with 18.2, and 13th overall in rebounding, averaging 7.3 boards per game. She is firing 75.6% from the free throw line (31-41), the 12th-best average in the conference.
The Bison will put their three-game win streak on the line in a 7 p.m. game at Elms on Wednesday night. The game wraps up the first half of the season for Nichols (4-2).
