CAPE COD, Mass. (Dec. 15) – Two players earned weekly honors from the ECAC Northeast Men's Ice Hockey Conference for Nichols College for the week ending Sunday December 13th. Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) earned the Player of the Week for the second time this season and Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) tallied his third Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Munson racked up the points on December 9th when Nichols defeated Franklin Pierce 5-3 on the road. He recorded the game-winning goal and assisted on two other goals. His goal came off of a four on four situation when he found the back of the net from the right-wing circle. It gave Nichols a 4-2 lead at the time and turned out to be the goal they needed. Overall Munson has 16 points on the season on four goals and 12 assists.
Zach Kohn played a factor in four of the five Bison goals at Franklin Pierce. He recorded four assists in the game and extended his point streak to eight straight games. He assisted on every goal in the game except the first one. With the four assists Kohn now has 23 points on the season on 10 goals and 13 assists. The 23 points puts him on the top of the leader board in the conference and ranks him third in the nation.
The win at Franklin Pierce snapped a three-game losing streak for Nichols.
Led by these two offensive powerhouses, Nichols (5-4-1) looks to start the year 2010 off with a bang. They kick off the new year at home on January 2nd in the Nichols College Bison Hockey Classic against Saint Mary's at 4:00 PM.
