DUDLEY, Mass. (Dec. 10) – Nichols College junior forward Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) has earned a spot on the d3hoops.com Team of the Week for play ending December 6, it was announced today. She adds the honor to the The Commonwealth Coast Conference and ECAC DIII New England Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards.
Nelson averaged 25 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game on the week to lead Nichols to a pair of overtime wins. She fired 75% from the field (21-for-28) while committing just six turnovers in 80 minutes of play.
In an 81-79 victory over Fitchburg State, she posted her second career double-double with a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, while adding five assists. Nelson followed with 24 points and eight boards in a 59-56 victory over Westfield State.
As of Monday, Nelson ranked second in the TCCC in points per game with 18.2, and 13th overall in rebounding, averaging 7.3 boards per game. She is firing 75.6% from the free throw line (31-41), the 12th-best average in the conference.
The Bison concluded the first half of the season on a four-game win streak after a 68-57 win at Elms College Wednesday night. Nichols will look to improve on its 5-2 record at the Salem State Christmas Tournament on December 29-30, when the Bison tip off against Oneonta State at 1 p.m. on the opening day of play.
