ECAC Names Widdison To New England All-Star Team

CAPE COD, Mass. – Nichols college first year midfielder Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) has been named to the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey All-Star Second Team, it was announced Monday. Widdison, a The Commonwealth Coast Conference First Team selection, helped lead the Bison to a program-best 18-4 record and their first-ever NCAA Championship Tournament appearance.

A key component all over the field for the Bison, Widdison recorded 24 points on seven goals and 10 assists in 22 games, scoring a pair of game-winners. Her overtime goal against New England College on October 10th lifted Nichols to its first win over the Pilgrims since 2003. She was named the TCCC Rookie of the Week three times during the year, once earning recognition as the www.womensfieldhockey.com national Rookie of the Week.

Widdison helped Nichols to set team records for most wins (18), most consecutive wins (13) and highest winning percentage (.818), and to tie the record for most shutouts (8) during the Bison's historic season. Nichols won the TCCC championship for the second time in program history, defeating New England College, 4-1, at Vendetti Field on November 7.
