DUDLEY, Mass. (Nov. 3) – Nichols College field hockey players Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.) and Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) have earned weekly honors from The Commonwealth Coast Conference, it was announced Monday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Bailey, a forward/midfielder, was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Forand, a goalkeeper, was named the Rookie of the Week. The honor marks the second on the season for Bailey and the fifth for Forand.
Bailey knocked home a career-high four goals in the Bison’s 5-0 victory over Gordon College in a TCCC Championship quarterfinal matchup on Saturday. Earlier in the week the senior had an assist in Nichols’ 3-0 victory over Worcester State. Bailey stands with 19 points on eight goals and three assists on the season.
Forand recorded her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season as she backstopped the Bison to a pair of wins. Forand opened the week with two saves in a 3-0 victory over Worcester State. She closed out her strong weekly performance with five saves in a 5-0 TCCC Quarterfinal victory over Gordon. Forand (15-3) leads the conference with a 0.98 goals against average, and ranks fifth with a .807 save percentage.
With the two victories, Nichols matched the program record for victories in a season, with 16. The third-seeded Bison (16-3) will travel to second seeded University of New England on Wednesday, November 4th for a 4:30 p.m. TCCC semifinal match. The winner will advance to the TCCC championship game on Saturday, November 7th at the highest remaining seed.
