NFHCA All-Region 2009

DUDLEY, Mass. (Nov. 17) – Three members of the Nichols College field hockey team have been selected to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III New England East All-Region Second Team, it was announced Monday. Junior forward Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.), sophomore forward Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) and sophomore goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) all earned All-Region honors, marking career firsts for all three.

Clinton, the Bison’s career assists leader, also earned All-TCCC Second Team honors after helping Nichols to its second TCCC championship title and Nichols’ first-ever NCAA Championship Tournament appearance. She led the conference and tied the program’s single-season assists record with 13 to go with seven goals for 27 points on the year.

Correia led Nichols with 38 points on 18 goals and a pair of assists, picking up a team high-tying five game-winners, including the game-winning goals in the TCCC semifinal and championship games. Correia ranked third in the TCCC in goals and fourth in points.

In her debut with the team at goalkeeper, Forand posted the conference’s lowest goals against average at 1.04 – the seventh-best GAA in the nation. Among her 17 wins on the season, she earned six shutouts, helping the Bison to tie the program record for shutouts in a season.

As a team, Nichols set program records for most wins (18), consecutive wins (13), and winning percentage (.818), during its historic season.
