DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 24) – The Nichols College men’s soccer team won its third-straight game with a 2-1 home victory over University of New England in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. Senior Tim Mann (Marshfield, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season and junior Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) netted his team-leading eighth marker of the year as Nichols improves to 11-6 overall and 7-5 in TCCC games. The Nor’Easters also stand at 7-5 in TCCC action and dip to 10-7 overall on the year.

Mann scored his unassisted goal in the 39th minute on a breakaway. He challenged Nor’Easters’ goalkeeper Jon Planer, drawing him out of the net before going around the keeper and shooting into the open net.

Nichols carried the lead into halftime along with a 13-8 shot advantage, but UNE knotted the game in the 54th minute when Owen Evans scored his fifth goal of the year. Elia Del Molino played a through ball up to Evans on the right side, and Evans finished it with a shot into the upper left side of the net to knot the game.

Just four minutes later, however, Nichols was awarded a free kick just outside the box and Capitanio placed the ball in from the left corner of the box.

Nichols goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (No. Attleboro, Mass.) made three saves in his 11th win of the year, while Planer stopped 10 shots in the loss.

Nichols is back in action at Colby-Sawyer in the Bison’s TCCC regular-season finale on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. UNE hosts Western New England College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Nor’Easters’ regular-season conference finale.
