SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 19) – First year women’s tennis player Alexandra Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) has been named the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for play ending Saturday, October 17. Cifone did not lose a game at the top singles spot in the Bison’s first-ever TCCC quarterfinal victory last Wednesday, a 9-0 win over Gordon. She also teamed up with Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) to break the single-season doubles wins record with an 8-1 victory at the top flight.

With the match clinched, Cifone breezed to an 8-0 pro set win at No. 1 singles, her second win at the position – where she has not dropped a game.

Cifone, a 2009 graduate of Bristol Eastern High School, is 11-2 in singles matches with an 8-2 record in TCCC matches and a 9-2 record at the third flight.

With Miller, Cifone has posted a 12-4 doubles ledger, the Nichols single-season record. The pair is 6-0 at the top flight and 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. In TCCC play, the pair has gone 7-4 on the year.

Nichols (15-1, 10-1 TCCC), which won a share of the TCCC regular-season title for the first time in program history hosts third seeded Endicott (13-3, 9-2) on Wednesday at the Francis W. Robinson Courts for the Bison’s first-ever TCCC Semifinal match. Second-seeded Nichols won the two teams’ previous meeting, 7-2, in Dudley on September 8th.
