Case Named NFHCA All-Region
Brittney Case

DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College senior Brittney Case (Cambridge, N.Y.) has been named to the 2008 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III New England East All-Region Second Team, as announced Monday. Case, a 2008 All-TCCC First Team selection at back, anchored the Nichols defense as team captain this season.

Case played in 17 of 19 games this season, recording 11 points on five goals, including three game-winners, and an assist. She earned TCCC Player of the Week honors on September 29 after forcing overtime and then netting the game-winner in the extra session against Castleton State.

A two-time All-TCCC First Team honoree, Case recorded 18 points with eight goals and two assists in 76 career games. She posted 12 defensive saves in her four-year career, including 10 in her junior campaign.

Nichols finished the season with a 9-10 record after falling to Salve Regina in penalty strokes in the TCCC quarterfinals.

The sixth-seeded Salve Regina field hockey team upset third-seeded Nichols College, 2-1, in penalty strokes Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Tournament. Amber Cottrell (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) scored for the Bison in the second half.

Four members of the Nichols College field hockey team have earned All-Conference honors from The Commonwealth Coast Conference, it was announced Friday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Seniors Brittney Case (Cambridge, N.Y.) and Jackie Dwyer (Enfield, Conn.) earned First Team accolades, while junior MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.) were awarded Second Team honors.

Junior Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.) had two goals and an assist to lead the Nichols field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Western New England College Tuesday night in the final game of the regular season for both teams. The Bison evened their record at 9-9 and improved to 5-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference to earn the third seed in the conference playoffs. Nichols will host sixth seed Salve Regina Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Gordon College Fighting Scots field hockey team defeated the Nichols College Bison 3-1 Saturday morning at Vendetti Field. Senior forward Mollie Sweeney (South Hamilton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with just under five minutes into second half when she put the shot into the lower right corner of the goal after it had deflected off a Nichols defender in the center of the arc.

Henniker, N.H. – New England College first-year forward Elise Luccarelli netted the lone goal of the game to lift the Pilgrims past the visiting Nichols College Bison, 1-0, Thursday afternoon.  With the win the Pilgrims gain sole possession of second place in the TCCC, improving to 6-1 in league play and 13-4 overall. The loss drops the Bison to 4-2 in TCCC action and evens their overall record at 8-8. MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) made 13 second-half saves to finish with 16 on the day.

The Nichols College field hockey game scheduled for Wednesday at New England College has been postponed due to inclement weather. The Bison will instead take on the Pilgrims in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Henniker, N.H.
