Women's Soccer Edges Colby-Sawyer, 2-1
Nicole Johnson

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women’s soccer team scored two second-half goals to edge Colby-Sawyer in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon. Nichols sophomore forward Nichole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) struck in the 83rd minute lift the Bison to their ninth win of the season, as they improve to 9-7-1 overall and 5-6-1 in conference action. The Chargers slip to 7-8-2 overall and 6-6-0 in league play.

Colby-Sawyer senior forward Elise Kapp (Yarmouthport, Mass.) picked up her rebound in the 40th minute and placed it past Bison goalkeeper Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead.

Nichols answered back in the 49th minute when first-year midfielder Kaleigh Rhoades (Florence, Mass.) won the ball and cut past a defender to play a through ball to classmate Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.), who fired from 15 yards out past Chargers netminder Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.) to knot the game.

Johnson netted the game-winner after Chelsea Blair (Blandford, Mass.) received a ball that was played up diagonally from the left and carried it in on net with Johnson to her left. Blair drew the keeper out, and tucked it over to Johnson who placed it into the open net for the win.

Levesque made seven saves in the win, while Quirk shouldered the loss with nine saves.

Nichols is back in action at Anna Maria on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Colby-Sawyer closes out the regular season at Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
