Women's Soccer Battles Eastern Nazarene to 1-1 Draw
Maria DiTommaso

QUINCY, Mass. – The Nichols College women’s soccer team battled Eastern Nazarene to a 1-1 double overtime tie in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Veterans Memorial Stadium Saturday. The Lady Crusaders and Bison provided a shooting fest, combining for 52 shots through 110 minutes of play, with visiting Nichols holding a 32-20 advantage

The Bison opened the scoring in the 13th minute of play as first-year player Maria DiTommasso (Rindge, N.H.) took a throw-in and weaved her way through the Crusaders defense to put a shot past keeper Brenna Mereness.

But the Crusaders’ Danielle Koers broke free six minutes into the second half and finished the shot on goal, for her fifth tally of the season, to tie the game up at 1-1.

The two teams had their opportunities in the second half and overtime, with the Bison having six corner kicks in that time frame compared to the Crusaders’ one.  However, the two teams’ defenses would stand the test and walk away with one point a piece in the TCCC standings.

Bison goalkeeper Sarah Lavesque (Ludlow, Mass.) came up with 13 saves. Crusaders’ Mereness made 10 saves, as both earned a tie.

Nichols (7-7-1, 3-6-1) travels to Salve Regina University Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. TCCC game.
