Men's Soccer Wins in 2OT Over New England College, 1-0
Mark Capitanio

DUDLEY, Mass. -- First year forward David Johnson (Canterbury, Conn.) of Nichols College slid a shot into the lower right corner past New England College to win, 1-0, in the second overtime in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s soccer game at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. Nichols now has a 5-7-1 record and is 2-5-1 in the TCCC while New England College is now 8-3-2 and lost their first TCCC game.

The two teams held each other scoreless though regulation. Both teams had a number of chances as Nichols was able to get twelve shots off and New England seven.  New England sophomore goalkeeper Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) made several diving stops to deny Nichols on breakaways. Leading the way in shots for Nichols was sophomore Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) with three as junior Kagan Sinclair (Marblehead, Mass.) for New England had a pair of shots that came close to putting New England on the board.

The winning goal was assisted by Nichols first year player Brian Sanz (Framingham, Mass.) when he chipped the ball over the heads of the defenders leading Johnson for the shot.

Nichols first year goalkeeper Brendan Hamilton (North Attleboro, Mass.) picked up the win as he recorded two saves and New England College goalkeeper Mayo got the loss with seven saves.

Nichols will host Endicott October 14 at 4 p.m., while New England College hosts Wentworth on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
