Four members of the Nichols College men’s tennis team have been named 2010 ITA Scholar-Athletes, it was announced recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Kevin Pittz ’10 (Delmar, N.Y.), along with sophomores Stephen Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Daniel Saucier (Newington, Conn.) and Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) were awarded the national academic honor.

The third-seeded Salve Regina University men’s tennis team edged second-seeded Nichols, 5-4, in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals Thursday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. A three-set marathon victory at No. 2 singles gave the Seahawks their eighth-straight victory on the season to improve to 12-10 overall. They will face top-seeded Roger Williams Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bristol, R.I. for the TCCC title. Nichols sees its record-setting season come to a close at 17-6.

The Nichols College men’s tennis team’s The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinal match has been postponed to Thursday, April 29th due to late quarterfinal round finishes on Tuesday night. The second-seeded Bison will host third-seeded Salve Regina at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Francis W. Robinson Courts.

4.27.10 | Men's Tennis

The Nichols College men’s tennis team advanced to the The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals for the first time since 2004 with a 5-1 quarterfinal victory over Wentworth at The Pomfret School. The second-seeded Bison, who improve to a program-record 17-5, will host the winner of sixth seed Endicott and third seed Salve Regina on Wednesday, April 28th at 3 p.m. for the semifinals. Seventh-seeded Wentworth concludes its season at 6-8 overall. Sophomore David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.)  did not drop a game on the day, teaming with Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) for an 8-0 win at third doubles and posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles for his 15th consecutive singles win.

Nichols College first year men’s tennis player Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) has been named the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, it was announced Tuesday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition, DeLuca and six other Bison men’s tennis players earned All-Conference accolades.

The Nichols College men’s tennis and softball teams’ The Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament openers have been postponed to Tuesday, April 27, due to inclement weather. The second-seeded men’s tennis team will host seventh-seeded Wentworth at the Francis W. Robinson Courts in a quarterfinal round match at 3 p.m. The seventh-seeded softball team will travel to Milton, Mass., to face sixth-seeded Curry for a play-in round game at 4 p.m.

4.24.10 | Men's Tennis

The Nichols College men’s tennis team swept the singles side en route to an 8-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Curry Saturday at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The Bison conclude the regular season with a school-record 16-5 ledger and a 10-1 TCCC record to clinch the second seed in the TCCC Tournament. Nichols will host a quarterfinal round match on Monday, April 26th at 2 p.m. Curry drops to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in TCCC matches. Nichols honored seniors Matthew Roach (Worcester, Mass.) and Kevin Pittz (Delmar, N.Y.) prior to the match.

 The Nichols College men’s tennis team swept doubles play en route to a 7-2 victory over Endicott in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match at Francis W. Robinson Courts Wednesday afternoon. Nichols improves to 15-5 overall and 9-1 in the TCCC, while Endicott drops to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in TCCC action. Dan Young (Washington Depot, Conn.) finished off Jake Cohen, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to remain undefeated in TCCC action.

The Nichols College men’s tennis team set the program’s single-season wins record Monday afternoon with its 14th victory of the season, a 9-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. The Bison improve to 8-1 in conference play, while the Chargers dip to 6-10 overall and even out at 4-4 in league action. Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) continued his undefeated season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ben Dabush at the top flight to extend his single-season program-best record to 17-0.

The wet weather forecast for Saturday has forced schedule changes for most of the Nichols College athletics events, with the exception of the men's lacrosse team's senior day game against Wentworth at noon. The home baseball doubleheader and men's tennis match have been postponed to Monday, as has the softball doubleheader at Wentworth. The road women's lacrosse game, meanwhile, has been postponed for two weeks.
