Nichols College Director of Athletics Charlyn Robert has promoted Damir Pesa to head women’s soccer coach, it was announced Wednesday. Pesa was previously an assistant coach with the women’s soccer program for the last three seasons and also serves as the head women’s lacrosse coach.

Top-seeded Endicott defeated Nichols College, 3-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinal contest on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Bison stand at 10-9 on the season and received nine saves from junior Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.).

Nichols College forward Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) has been named the 2009 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year, it was announced Friday by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. In addition, Abro and sophomore midfielder Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) have been named to the All-TCCC First Team, and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn DiBuono (Auburn, Mass.) was selected to the All-TCCC Second Team. Eleven different institutions from TCCC were represented on the 2009 All-TCCC Women’s Soccer Team, as voted by the TCCC women’s soccer coaches.

NEW LONDON, N.H. (Oct. 27) -- The Nichols College women’s soccer team solidified a spot in the upcoming The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Samantha Abro’s (Northborough, Mass.) second half goal, her 22nd on the season, spoiled the Chargers’ senior day festivities. Nichols now awaits its seeding in the TCCC tournament and will play a quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 31.

A trio of Nichols College fall student-athletes have earned weekly honors from The Commonwealth Coast Conference, it was announced Monday, October 26. Junior forward Mark Capitanio (Mansfield, Mass.) was named the Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, first year forward Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) earned the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week award, and first year midfielder Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) picked up Field Hockey Rookie of the Week honors. In addition, Capitanio was recognized as the ECAC DIII New England Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

The Nichols College women’s soccer team handed the University of New England its first loss in over a month in a 2-1 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. The win extends the Bison’s win streak to four and moves Nichols to 9-8 overall and 6-6 on the year as Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) and Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) teamed up to give Nichols a 2-0 lead in the opening frame and goalkeeper Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) made eight saves in the game to earn the win.

The Nichols College women’s soccer team won its fourth-straight game Wednesday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn DiBuono (Auburn, Mass.) recorded a pair of assists to break the program’s single-season assists record, bringing her season total to 13. Nichols improves to 8-8 overall and 5-6 in TCCC games, while the Lions dip to 5-12 overall and 3-8 in TCCC action.
