Nichols College juniors Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) and Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) have been named to the 2009-2010 All-The Commonwealth Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Third Team, it was announced Tuesday. The award marks the second of Nelson’s career, and the first for Robidoux.

The University of New England women’s basketball team posted a 73-49 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory at Nichols Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Nor’Easters claim a share of the TCCC regular-season title with an 11-2 conference record, while improving to 20-5 overall. Nichols concludes its season at 12-12 overall and 5-8 in conference action. Junior forward Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) led Nichols with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior Lyndsey Bennett (No. Brookfield, Mass.) added eight rebounds to go with five points. She and senior Alena Jasinski (Canton, Conn.), who scored six points on a pair of three-pointers, were honored prior to the game.

The Regis College women’s basketball team defeated Nichols College, 76-53, to remain atop the The Commonwealth Coast Conference standings with a 10-2 conference record and a 16-8 overall ledger. Nichols dips to 12-11 overall and 5-7 in conference action, and slides into a tie for eighth place in the standings with one game remaining on the season. Junior forward Jessica Nelson (North Providence, R.I.) led all scorers with 21 points, posting he fourth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.

The Nichols College women’s basketball team used a balanced defensive effort, combining for 22 steals to defeat Eastern Nazarene, 77-65, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon. Nichols improves to 12-10 overall and 5-6 in conference action, while the Lions dip to 8-15 overall and 2-9 in league play. The Bison forced 29 Lions turnovers and parlayed them into 32 points in the game. First year Kristina Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) had five steals and six assists to go with nine points.

A late basket by the Wentworth women's basketball team with with 1:27 remaining in regulation snapped a 57-all tie as the Leopards held on to defeat Nichols, 62-61, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Tansey Gymnasium. Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) had 14 points for the Bison, and Jessica Nelson (No. Providence, R.I.) added 14.

The Nichols College women’s basketball team shot 56% from the field and controlled play throughout, rolling to an 80-60 defeat over Gordon at the Bennett Center on Saturday. The win – the third in a row - moves the Bison to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in TCCC play. Gordon drops to 9-12, and stands at 2-7 in conference action. Lyndsey Bennett (No. Brookfield, Mass.) filled the stats sheet with 12 points, four assists, four rebounds and five steals.

The Golden Bears rallied from an 11-point deficit with just over nine minutes left in the game to improve to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in conference games. Nichols dips to 8-9 overall and 1-5 in TCCC action. Sophomore forward Lena Fracassini (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds on the night.
