Contest Coverage
All in-season home games will have a licensed athletic trainer available. Due to staffing limitations, non-traditional teams may not have on-site coverage for practices but arrangements will need to be made to have appropriate coverage for game dates. A physician will in attendance for all home football and ice hockey games.
Contest Supplies
The following items will be supplied at each contest:
-Water cooler with cups or bottles
-Ice cooler with bags for injuries
-Splints, crutches etc
-Towels
Facilities/Hours
The Nichols College Athletic Training room is located in the Chalmer’s Fieldhouse, just off of the all purpose courts. The Athletic Training room is open at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and will remain open until the conclusion of team practices/games. Rehabilitation is preferred to be done between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. After 1:30 p.m. the staff is preparing the in-season teams for practices/games. Weekend hours are solely for coverage of team practices and games and the Athletic Training room will open two hours prior to a game and will remain open for one hour after games.
Visiting Teams
Please call in advance if you will not be sending a staff member with your teams, especially if players require special attention. Please supply your own tape, ace wraps etc and we will accommodate your team needs. The use of ice and/or heat is available however modalities (ultrasound and electrical stimulation) will not be available to visiting teams traveling without coverage.
Secondary Insurance Information
All student-athletes who are injured during Nichols College athletic team practices or games are covered through a policy by Fairmont Premier Insurance Company. This coverage is only for injuries relating to athletics. Student athletes who sustain non-athletic related injuries are not covered under this policy, the student-athlete’s primary health insurance would provide coverage.
Intercollegiate and Club Sport Insurance Policy Information
Each Academic Year Nichols College provides to their athletes and club sport participants an Intercollegiate and Club Sport policy. Below you will find some specifics of this coverage for the 2007 – 2008 policy year:
Ø      Intercollegiate Sports: Baseball, Basketball, Field Hockey, Football (tackle), Golf, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball & Tennis.
Ø      Club Sports: Cheerleading, Hockey, Karate, Racquetball, Rugby, Volleyball, Paintball & Ultimate Frisbee.
Ø      Policy Year: August 1, 2006 – July 31, 2008
Ø      Benefit Period: 365 days from the date of the Covered Accident
Ø      Deductible: $100 (Disappearing)
Ø      Percentage Payable: 100%
Ø      Maximum: $75,000 Intercollegiate Sports / $50,000 Club Sports
Ø      Policy Number: BAB001998
Ø      Coordination of Benefits: Full Excess (secondary plan)
Ø      When to file a claim: Within 30 days after a covered injury occurs or begins or a soon as reasonably possible by filling out the appropriate claim form.
